FULFILLING A DUTY TO GIVE BACK
.
In his inaugural speech last week, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua spoke eloquently about imbibing a new culture of virtues in the national life. He reiterated the fact that the term “Nigerian Factor” was derogatory and counseled Nigerians to rise above vices in the new Nigeria he intends to lead by setting personal example.
.
A few days before that memorable inaugural speech, some Nigerians came together under the aegis of 40UNDER40 Nigeria to promote these good virtues the president spoke about among Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora. To them, Nigeria had been cast in the negative terms for such a long time that, it was time many of the good things some Nigerians are doing are celebrated. Also part of the cardinal objectives is to give a helping hand to the less privileged in the society.
.
According to Mr. Ufo Atuanya, managing partner of Rimson Associates, who put the programme together, accomplished Nigerians were expected to mentor the less privileged children randomly chosen from some orphanage homes. Eric-Atuanya stated that the launch of the group was part of a concerted effort to promote Nigeria’s international image. 40UNDER40 was officially launched at the prestigious Lagos Motor Boat Club, Ikoyi, Lagos recently to promote these virtues.
.
The executive director of 40UNDER40 Nigeria project, Mrs. Ego Boyo said it was also a recognition of the intent to provide opportunities for the less privileged children by honoring individuals who exemplify the qualities that the group wishes to impact unto the Nigerian child.
.
40UNDER40 wants to challenge and inspire these children and to discover potentials and create success by giving them parallel life studies to emulate”, she added.
